How To Manage The Classroom Top 5 Tips
Step by step instructions to Manage The Classroom Top 5 Tips One of the most troublesome components of filling in as an instructor is in homeroom the board. It's just fine having an extraordinary comprehension of your subject, yet on the off chance that you can't control the room, at that point you will have an extremely difficult time giving your knowledge. Instructors should be taught, composed and centered; so as to keep up control of an incredibly burnable condition. In this blog, we'll give you some top tips on the most proficient method to oversee the classroom. How To Manage The ClassroomTip 1: Seating Your StudentsThe first interesting point when managing another class, is the place they expect to sit them. This will shift contingent upon the kind of work that you will do, however ideally, you need to put understudies in a position where they can participate in pair or gathering work. By making close physical nearness, you make a domain where understudies are almost certain and ready to address one another. A genuine case of how not to do this is placed a line of understudies in a single line. Regularly, in these lines (with regards to working in gatherings) there are consistently 1 or 2 appalling understudies toward the stopping point who are forgotten about and don't learn/get the chance to contribute so a lot. Short, different lines are unmistakably more helpful for a decent domain than long. Obviously, you could generally attempt the circle or semi-circle approach. This is incredible for connection, however numerous individuals grumble that they feel threatened by 'the space in the center' or the way that everybody in the class can be watching them at any one second. This is a significant method of figuring out how to deal with the classroomTip 2: Eye ContactCommunication is one of the key resources of homeroom the executives, and a fundamental component of this is eye to eye connection. By keeping in touch with various individuals from the gathering, you will expand center and guarantee that everybody feels a ssociated with the exercise. This doesn't mean you have to look at everyone, except put forth sure you are making a cognizant attempt to take a gander at the understudies who may be in a segregated situation inside the room â" for instance at the back.Tip 3: Speak ClearlyEven more so than eye to eye connection, the manner in which you talk characterizes your correspondence capacity. As an instructor, your voice is your most noteworthy weapon, so use it. You should have the option to talk boisterously, obviously and legitimately, all together for your understudies to hear you appropriately. Probably the most concerning issue that new educators have is that they are terrified to speak loudly, and in this manner understudies need to strain to hear them. This prompts lost fixation, which thusly prompts bad conduct in the homeroom. The manner in which you talk likewise connects with the way where you convey data as well. When putting your point over, it's crucial that you can do as such in an unmistakable way. Recall your crowd. You may well have a PHD in the subject, yet your understudies don't, and you have to tailor the data you are giving and the manner in which it is put over. On the other hand, on the off chance that you talk too straightforwardly, understudies will perceive this and respond severely. The key is to discover a harmony between talking gradually and unmistakably, yet at the same time conveying the fitting data in a smart way. This reaches out to realizing WHEN to talk as well. On the off chance that you basically continue talking at understudies, without tuning in to them or in any event, recognizing that it's a principal prerequisite for them to tune in, at that point they will essentially block out and won't get the hang of anything. Talking unmistakably will truly assist you with figuring out how to deal with the classroom.Tip 4: Giving InstructionsFollowing on from the past point, giving guidelines is significant as well. One of the most wi dely recognized issues that educators face is that their conversation based exercises won't plan. The purpose behind this is typically in light of the fact that they haven't spread out their guidelines appropriately. Regardless of whether they are too confounded or just not satisfactory, in the event that you don't explain it for your understudies, at that point don't anticipate that them should get it. In view of this, here are 3 general pointers for offering directions to your class:Don't overcomplicate things. Keep your guidelines as succinct and basic as could be expected under the circumstances. Recall that not every person in your group will have incredible listening abilities, and thusly may be seriously put off by extremely complex instructions.Don't be obscure. Various investigations have indicated that classes work better when the educator furnishes the understudies with an unmistakable objective or reason, and a particular assignment to work with. Basically, on the off ch ance that you leave directions excessively open for translation, you are requesting misbehaviour.Gain affirmation. An incredible method to explain that individuals have comprehended the directions is just to ask them. When you've given out the guidelines, check out the room. Are there any understudies looking marginally puzzled or lost? Request that they hand-off what they comprehend they need to never really class. On the off chance that they are incorrect, right them. In doing as such, you'll give everybody direction on what they ought to be doing.Tip 5: Using the boardOur last tip on the best way to deal with the study hall identifies with one of the most mainstream and polarizing study hall instruments â" the board. The white (or board remains the most famous route for instructors to send visual messages to their study halls, and is significantly more unmistakable now and again than you yourself as the educator. In view of this, here are some top tips on the best way to utilize the board to your advantage:Your penmanship matters. OK, not every person has immaculate penmanship, yet it should be decipherable and huge enough to peruse. On the off chance that individuals at the back can't peruse it appropriately, at that point there is an issue. Recall that the board is for everybody, not only a couple of outwardly predominant students.Don't abuse the board. This is a typical misstep. A few educators invest so much energy composing on the board during the exercise that it really takes away from the exercise itself. On the off chance that you have to compose long sentences on the board, at that point do as such before the exercise really begins. The additional time spent instructing, and not composing, the better.Turn around! Following on from the last point, there are countless educators who become nearly hitched to the board. In other words, their correspondence levels drop and class intrigue winds down, in light of the fact that the educator invests more en ergy collaborating with the board than with the class itself. Ensure that you pivot oftentimes, to guarantee the class comprehend and connect with the subject.Board doesn't mean exhausted. The slate is an awesome method of engaging your understudies, it doesn't need to be a tedious instrument. Draw pictures, show your contentions, make a lighter climate in the class. The board can be utilized to make understudies chuckle, just as learn. This section was posted in Education, 'How To' Help. Bookmark the permalink. Millennial Stereotypes Disproving Them Once and For All
Millennial Stereotypes Disproving Them Once and For All Recent college grads face a great deal of analysis. Some of it might be merited, however a ton of it isn't. This age includes a huge level of the workforce, and its individuals are surely changing the manner in which individuals work together. Be that as it may, that is not an awful thing. Maybe more than past ages, Millennials get unfavorable criticism. Here are four negative generalizations about Millennials in the work environment and how you can refute them. 1. They're sluggish and entitled. Past ages have, obviously, confronted analysis of being sluggish in their childhood, however this is one generalization specifically that the Millennial age is by all accounts incapable to shake. Millennial workers are additionally prone to be percieved as qualified and reluctant for take care of their obligations so as to learn and develop in their calling. Refute these negative generalizations by trying sincerely and having a decent mentality. Everybody needs to begin some place, so regardless of whether you're an associate today, you could be a chief tomorrow (well, perhaps not tomorrow, yet in a couple of years). Keep up an uplifting disposition, and don't act like any errand you see as modest is underneath you. Your Baby Boomer supervisor will in all likelihood be intrigued with your standpoint, which can get you far. Show your hard working attitude. Appear on schedule, if not sooner than you need to, and go well beyond while finishing your assignments. That is to state, don't do the absolute minimum. In the event that you do need an exceptional kindness, ensure you have a legitimate explanation and information to back up why it's significant. For example, on the off chance that you need to work from home to work, clarify why, and show proof that you and others really work all the more profitably from home. On the off chance that you are conceded that benefit, show your administrator that she's settled on the correct decision by placing in the difficult work and delivering. 2. They're self retained. The truth of the matter is, everybody is narcissistic somewhat. That is on the grounds that you're the star of your own life, as you ought to be. It's the point at which you begin acting like you're the star of others' lives this will in general get irritating. In the work environment, displaying self assimilation may propose that you're not a cooperative person or trust you merit more credit than you really do. In case you're continually attempting to take the spotlight from collaborators or acting like you assumed a greater job in an undertaking than you really did, you'll lose the trust of both your supervisors and your companions. It's imperative to focus on the individuals around you and exercise modesty. In the event that somebody has a major achievement, praise her. Regardless of whether you assumed a job in her arriving, hang tight for her to recognize it, as opposed to taking the credit. Obviously, in the event that somebody assumes acknowledgment for your work totally or censures you for something you didn't do, you don't have to kick back and watch it occur. You ought to consistently go to bat for yourself. Be that as it may, some portion of being a cooperative person some of the time implies permitting others to get the honors. You can find a way to oppose this generalization of the Millennial age, as well. Basically asking associates how their day is going or offering help with a task gives them that you give it a second thought and are eager to contribute. 3. They need devotion. One fantasy many Baby Boomers and Gen Xers frequently sustain is that Millennials are continually searching for their next vocation move and have no steadfastness to their ebb and flow managers. Notwithstanding, as per a Pew Research Center examination, Millennials really remain with their activity longer on normal than their Gen X partners did when they were the age Millennials are currently. Be that as it may, in light of the fact that this negative generalization needs legitimacy doesn't mean the results of more established ages and even companions trusting it won't influence you. So as to show your boss that you're faithful, exhibit solid hard working attitude and duty by investing energy into your work and going well beyond the prerequisites of your situation to show that you truly care about your activity. Obviously, making these additional strides can likewise profit you in different manners, for example, prompting advancements or more elevated levels of duty. The facts confirm that youngsters change occupations as often as possible; once in a while, you can't progress in your profession without having a go at something new, or you're simply searching for various encounters. You should remain at an occupation for in any event a year, however, so you don't seem to be an occupation container to imminent managers. They will be careful about employing somebody with a reputation of switching up occupations at regular intervals, since who's to state you won't do something very similar to them? 4. They're fixated on innovation. Twenty to thirty year olds are advanced locals. We grew up with PCs, in contrast to Gen Xers, who lived a lot of their youth and even youthful adulthood without them, contingent upon where they fall in the Gen X section. People born after WW2, in the mean time, are unadulterated computerized workers. The truth of the matter is, innovation is basic to numerous employments, yet in case you're working for a Baby Boomer chief, especially one who isn't carefully capable, she might be less inclined to comprehend why you should utilize innovation. If so, set aside the effort to clarify how innovation encourages you carry out your responsibility well. For example, you may find out about new patterns in your industry through online life. In certain fields, for example, promoting, web-based social networking is an essential part of your activity. You may offer to show your supervisor a few different ways diverse advanced devices can improve your own exhibition, just as the company'swithout violating or being stooping, obviously. The facts demonstrate that some youngsters invest energy in Facebook or Instagram when they ought to be working. The main solution for that conduct is to quit doing it. You're just taking care of into negative generalizations and giving yourself a poor notoriety as a worker. You are not your age Individuals of past ages have various characters and gifts. That is to state, only one out of every odd Gen Xer or Baby Boomer is actually equivalent to the following. The equivalent is valid for Millennials. Sadly, Millennial specialists face a decent lot of undue generational observation and antagonism. We make up the biggest level of the present workforce, representing in excess of 33% all things considered, as indicated by Pew Research Center information. That implies we assume a tremendous job in forming the manner in which individuals work. In case you're a Millennial specialist, do your part to be the best representative you can be. You're speaking to your generationand making an immense commitment to the world.

Do not - I repeat - DO NOT like your job - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
Don't - I rehash - dislike your activity - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog With gratitude to Kathy Sierra for letting me get her visual style for a blogpost. With the exception of obviously that her stuff looks much better :o) After one of my ongoing talking gigs about satisfaction at work, one member revealed to me this story: I function as a software engineer in a significant bank. I used to go in consistently, work my 40 hours (increasingly like 50, yet hello) and get paid a pleasant compensation. It was a decent activity in a decent organization, my supervisor was a hero, my colleagues were slick individuals and the work was OK. Be that as it may, as time passed, I felt like something was absent. Work was agreeable and secure, yet I felt that there were sides of me that I never truly got the opportunity to utilize. I needed to accomplish work I could truly feel pleased with. I needed to have to a greater extent an effect. What's more, for the most part, I was never truly amped up for work. So I asked myself what it would take to improve things. I concocted three things: Being progressively innovative and chipping away at increasingly differed ventures, rather than just keeping up the banks inward projects. Increasingly fun at work. The state of mind in the division was intense and proficient, to the point of being exhausting. Learning some new expert abilities. I got some information about this and he was strong. We drew up an arrangement for certain courses and affirmations and discovered some new undertakings that I could chip away at. We enrolled some similarly invested partners in the gathering and took a shot at helping the temperament in the gathering together. Amazingly, this didnt simply change my work life a bit, it had a major effect. With my new abilities, new tasks and an increasingly positive temperament at work, I went from feeling OK about my business to feeling extremely extraordinary about it. I accomplish much better work also. Halfway on the grounds that Ive expanded my abilities and expanded my work understanding yet predominantly in light of the fact that I feel quite a lot more energetic about work now. The distinction between approving of my activity and being glad about it has been colossal for me. Most occupation fulfillment reviews can isolate individuals into three gatherings: Individuals who HATE their occupations. As a rule around 10% Individuals who like their employments. Around 70-80% of us. Individuals who LOVE their employments. For the most part around 10-20% This may sound unusual originating from me, yet Im fatal genuine here: dislike your activity. Enjoying your activity is pleasant. Its agreeable. Its safe. Its OK. At the point when you like your activity youre really productive. Youre genuinely fulfilled. You can get by for quite a long time on loving your activity. In any case, when you LOVE your activity MAN, what a distinction that makes. Its a generally little advance from enjoying your business to adoring it. It doesnt take a lot and the things we have to do are generally simple and accessible to us all. Be that as it may, the distinction in result is humongous. For whatever length of time that you like your activity, youre just a pale impression of what you could be in the event that you cherished it. Youre acknowledging just a little part of your maximum capacity. Youre not having close to as much sun as possible have. Studies show that there are colossal advantages to intersection the edge and arriving at where youre extremely cheerful at work, instead of simply fulfilled. In addition to other things: You accomplish much better work. Youre substantially more innovative. Youre substantially more inspired. You have substantially more vitality. Youre substantially more beneficial. Youre a vastly improved associate. On the off chance that your activity includes deals, youre a greatly improved salesman. On the off chance that your activity includes client contact, your clients are a lot more joyful. Your personal satisfaction outside of work is a lot higher. What's more, were not talking only somewhat more were jabbering more! A large number of individuals settle for occupations they like. The issue is that when you like your activity there isnt much weight on you to change. Loving your activity isnt terrible for you. Its unquestionably a whole lot better than despising your activity which can make you wiped out or even execute you. In any case, when you love your activity you are in a totally unique group. So Im saying that we shouldnt settle for any less any longer. Lets make joy at work the standard instead of the special case. It might take some work, however all of us can arrive. First settle on that choice for yourself conclude that starting now and into the foreseeable future, you will be cheerful busy working. At that point discover what you can do to get the opportunity to adore your activity or what you can do to find a new line of work you love. At that point do it. Shouldn't something be said about you do you love your activity? Have you had work you adored? How can it influence you when you love your activity? Compose a remark! As Ronald Schouten, teacher of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School clarifies, they don't let troublesome things like heart or sympathy disrupt the general flow. Since they don't have both of them. From Almost a Psychopath:Psychopathy is a mental condition wherein the individual shows a significant absence of compassion for the sentiments of others, a readiness to participate in indecent and solitary conduct for transient increases, and outrageous egocentricity. No, they don't all have chilly, dead eyes and wear a hockey veil. Many are clever and very expressive. They're narcissistic and rash. What's more, since they need sympathy they conside r other to be as articles to be used.Just on the grounds that they don't feel compassion doesn't mean they don't get it. Also, many get very great at faking it. All the better to control you to get what they want.Neuroscience look into shows the enthusiastic focuses of their cerebrums don't react the manner in which yours do.From Snakes in Suits: When Psychopaths Go to Work:In a few practical attractive reverberation imaging (fMRI) mind imaging studies, Hare and his partners found that passionate words and disagreeable pictures didn't create in insane people the increments in the action of cerebrum (limbic) districts regularly connected with the handling of passionate material. But it's more terrible than that. As Ronald Schouten reports, when neuroscientists did a PET sweep of maniacs subsequent to giving them amphetamines, the core accumbens area of their dim issue delivered four fold the amount of dopamine.Translation: compensating stuff is far, unquestionably additionally remuner ating to them. So you consider accomplishing something mean and your soul hammers the brakes. Be that as it may, insane people's brake line has been cut. Also, stuff they need is multiple times as compensating to them. So somebody likewise put a block on their accelerator. Some individuals may think: I have done terrible things. Furthermore, I discover a few things truly rewarding. Oh my god! I'm stressed that I'm a psychopath! If you're concerned that you're a maniac, you're not a mental case - in light of the fact that sociopaths don't worry. From The Psychopath Test:⦠experiencing nervousness is the neurological inverse of being an insane person with regards to amygdala function. So how improve? We don't. In reality, treatment exacerbates them. Training them about compassion doesn't make them increasingly compassionate. It just shows them how to counterfeit it better. They consider treatment to be completing school.Violent sociopaths given advising were 20% bound to re-offend.From The Psychopath Test:⦠two analysts in the mid 1990s had attempted an itemized investigation of the drawn out recidivism paces of mental cases who had experienced Elliott's program and been let out into society. Its distribution would most likely have been an exceptional second for Elliott and Gary and the Capsule. In customary conditions, 60 percent of criminal maniacs discharged into the outside world go on to re-irritate. What level of their mental cases had? As it turned out: 80 percent.(To gain proficiency with the seven-advance wake-up routine that will satisfy all of you day, click here.)Okay, however this sounds outrageous. Also, it is. You likely don't have the foggiest idea about any out and out insane people, rashly pursuing anything they desire with no still, small voice to reign them in⦠But you most likely know a subclinical maniac or two⦠Subclinical PsychopathsSo what happens when you dial down the psychopathy a piece, turn off the lack of caution and include a little conscientiousness so they can graduate school or business school? You get a mental case who mixes in grinding away fine and dandy. Furthermore, they pursue their prizes, overlook ethical quality and are very acceptable at covering their tracks.Robert Hare, the criminal therapist who built up the test used to assess insane people clarifies:⦠numerous mental cases never go to jail or some other office. They seem to work sensibly well-as legal counselors, specialists, therapists, scholastics, soldiers of fortune, cops, religion pioneers, military faculty, representatives, scholars, craftsmen, performers, etc without violating the law, or if nothing else without being gotten and sentenced. These people are just as egocentric, hard, and manipulative as the normal criminal insane person; nonetheless, their knowledge, family foundation, social aptitudes, and conditions grant them to build an exterior of regularity and to get what they need with relative impunity. And what number of individuals like this are going near? Presently all out sociopaths are about 1% of the populace. With the goal that's 3 million in the only us. In any case, subclinical insane people? Schouten says they're progressively similar to 5-15%.From Almost a Psychopath:Studies that analyzed the commonness of subclinical psychopathy in understudy populaces in the United States and Sweden demonstrated rates in the scope of 5 to 15 percent⦠5 to 15 percent of the populace implies that for each twenty individuals, up to three of them may fall inside the nearly sociopath range.(To figure out how to manage a narcissist, click here.)So subclinical mental cases aren't hacking individuals up with a hatchet. Be that as it may, they are heartlessly following what they need with no worry for people around them. How would they do it? In the event that they're breaking hearts and pervading enterprises, how would they not get caught? How Do Psychopaths Get What They Want?Hare says that whether subclinica l insane people are botching your adoration life or your working environment, they as a rule follow a three stage process: They survey the utility, shortcomings and resistances of everyone around them, They control others to bond with them and get what they need, They surrender their objectives and proceed onward⦠Or, in a professional workplace, frequently climb. From Snakes in Suits: When Psychopaths Go to Work:First, they survey the estimation of people to their necessities, and distinguish their mental qualities and shortcomings. Second, they control the people (presently potential casualties) by taking care of them painstakingly made messages, while continually utilizing input from them to manufacture and look after control. In addition to the fact that this is a viable way to deal with take with the vast majority, it additionally permits insane people to talk their way around and out of any trouble rapidly and adequately whenever went up against or tested. Third, they leave the depleted and befuddled casualties when they are drilled or in any case through with them.If they attack your own life, they turn on that fake sympathy and appeal. They tune in to hear what you consider yourself and strengthen that. The message? I like what your identity is. At that point they imagine they share comparable characteristics. Message? I am much the sa me as you. It's very little extraordinary at the workplace. They become more acquainted with everybody and utilize that phony sympathy to establish a decent first connection and rapidly make sense of who has the power. From Snakes in Suits: When Psychopaths Go to Work:Once they join the organization, mental cases attempt to meet the same number of individuals in the organization as they can, spreading positive early introductions and gathering however much data as could be expected. While meeting and welcome association individuals, they study their collaborators' hierarchical jobs and instinctually evaluate their short-and long-extend utility or worth. An individual's worth depends on where the person fits into the hierarchical progressive system (here and there alluded to as position influence), specialized capacities (master influence), access to data (information influence), and whether the individual in question controls staff, cash, and different resources (asset power).Turns ou t it's quite simple for them. Their rush looking for nature is confused with prized worker characteristics like high vitality and being actio

Why and How to Help Get Your Friends Jobs
Why and How to Help Get Your Friends Jobs 96 Because giving is the best way to receive. This is a guest post by Stephan Wiedner. If youâd also like to guest post here on JobMob, follow these guest post guidelines. If you really want to get a job, consider focusing all your efforts on finding someone else a job first. I know, it sounds crazy and counter-intuitive but it works. Here's why.eval 4 Reasons Why You Should Help Your Friends Find a Job 1. Understand yourself better âBy helping someone else discover their greatness, you will discover yours,â says Kathy Fleming, a Master Certified Coach and one of the most experienced career coaches on Noomii.com. âBy being a skilled listener, you can reflect the greatness in the other individual and perhaps rekindle and remember your own greatness.âeval 2. Improve your own job search skills It gets you out of your own head and into the position of the employer. Trying to play the role of an employer gives you insight into what people are looking for when hiring. This is invaluable information when finding a job for yourself. 3. Grow your network âIt creates a network of individuals that will want to help you find a job,â adds Doris Helge, Ph.D., author of âJoy on the Jobâ. âSome of my clients have also discovered entirely new careers and a wealth of contacts when they helped friends.â 4. Build your self-confidence It will make you feel good about yourself. Research in the field of positive psychology, led by Sonya Lyubomirsky, dispels the belief that good work performance leads to happiness. Instead, it is the other way around: happy people tend to have more career and job success. In other words, people with high levels of positivity tend to be the best employees and get the best jobs. What does positivity have to do with helping someone else find a job? Iâm glad you asked. Eastern philosophers have known for centuries and modern day psychologists are confirming that one of the most direct ways to make you more happy is to be helpful to others. Searching for a job can be emotionally challenging, especially if you have been trying to get a job for a long time. You may be feeling overwhelmed, depressed, and even desperate. When negative feelings enter our brains, we tend to focus on them more and more and we enter a downward spiral that can be hard to get out of. One sure-fire way to hijack the perpetuating negative thoughts is to focus on other people. It shifts your thinking from âwoe is meâ to âwe is meâ. Alright, now letâs move onto the practical aspect of helping your friend find a job. How to Help a Friend Tweak their Resumé Crafting a great resumé is a tough skill to master and there is one way to get better at it- help someone else with theirs. Youâre probably wondering how you are supposed to help someone else when you donât know how to do it yourself. Well, even if you are struggling to make your resumé shine, there is always someone that can benefit from your independent perspective. Resumé writing is challenging because it requires an objective assessment of our own strengths, weaknesses, and accomplishments. We tend to be our own biggest critics. We are blind to our strengths and magnify our weaknesses. It's way easier to be objective about someone elseâs work experience and career objectives. Therefore, find a friend, be their objective reviewer, and help them polish up their resumé. Here's how to do it: 1. Find out what kind of job your friend is looking for. 2. Put yourself in the position of their potential employer. The first rule of resumé writing is that you â" and your friend â" need to tailor the resumé for each job individually. 3. Sit down with your friend, grab their resumé, and before you do anything, try to wipe away any preconceived notions you have of this person. Pretend that you are looking at the resumé of a stranger. Now, review their resumé, top to bottom, in under 60 seconds. Then put it away. 4. Turn to your friend and describe your impression â" based solely on the resumé â" of who they are. Don't just recite facts. Focus on creating an image of this person. You might say things like âI can tell from your resumé that you are very organized and systematic but you like to have fun. You're a work-hard, play-hard kind of person.â 5. Now ask your friend to tell you, in their opinion, how accurate you were. Get them to list the impressions that were correct, wrong, and missing. 6. Now it's your turn. You get to make a list of impressions that you thought were correct, wrong, and missing based on your previous knowledge and experience. Remember, your friend is likely blind to their greatest strengths, the qualities their resumé aught to emphasize. 7. Brainstorm possible edits and corrections that your friend can make to improve their resumé. Be creative and have fun. When you're done, go home and take a look at your own resumé. I guarantee that you will find at least a couple tweaks that you can immediately use. And who knows, maybe your friend will return the favor and review your resumé for you. How to be an Employer and Interview a Friend After busting your butt to qualify yourself for potential jobs, the last thing you want to do is choke during the interview. Neither does anybody else. So help at least one person by interviewing them and giving them some practice. The beauty is that by helping your friend, you will be helping yourself gain valuable insight into what an employer experiences, thus better equipping yourself to ace the interview the next time you get one. Hereâs how to interview your friend: 1. Make a list of appropriate interview questions. Better yet, ask your friend what kind of questions they expect to get from their prospective interviewer. If you do a Google search for interview questions, you will find hundreds of potential questions. 2. Find a venue to conduct the interview that resembles the real thing. For example, if your friend is looking for a corporate job, try to find a business office setting to conduct the interview. If your friend expects to do a phone or video chat interview, then do that. 3. Dress the part and adopt the persona of the interviewer. If you are going to interview your friend for a banking job, put on a suit and try to be the CEO or VP. 4. Now comes the hard part. Ask the tough interview questions and listen to your friend's answers from the perspective of the employer. Notice the answers that sound the most convincing, authentic, and engaging. You may want to take some notes while your friend is talking but stay in your role until the interview is done. 5. After youâre done, take a quick breather and then debrief the interview. Tell your friend the top 5 things they did well and how they were most engaging. Stay positive, focus on what your friend did well, and encourage more of the good stuff. When youâre done, go home and think about how can you be more engaging and what can you do to ace your next interview? I guarantee that you will come up with at least a couple great ideas. How to Forward Job Postings to People in Your Network If you havenât already, you'll probably be spending a lot of time scouring the Internet for job postings and visiting local employment offices. For every job that is ideal for you, there are hundreds of jobs that are ideal for someone you know. Itâs not tough to send these opportunities to your friends â" itâs just a matter of sending an email or tweet â" but it can be tough to maintain an âother-focusedâ state of mind. So why not block out a little time to help a friend. Hereâs how: 1. Make a list of people you know that are looking for a job. This will help you keep them at the top of your mind. Also add people that could benefit from a new job, even if they are not looking for a job. 2. Block off some time â" maybe 5 minutes â" to find at least one job that you can send along to someone else. Ideally you will do this every day until it becomes a habit. 3. Look for jobs that appear to be really great but are not quite the right fit for you. You donât want to send along crappy jobs. 4. Revisit your list of names to determine who, in your network, would be a good fit for the job opportunity. 5. Send your friend the link. As an employer, I can tell you how important it is to find good people. By sending job postings along to others, you are helping the company as well as the people in your network. Before you know it, thanks to the power of reciprocity, other people will be happily looking out for you, sending you amazing job opportunities. Not only that, they may even put in a good word for you to get your foot in the door with some of the biggest and best employers around. Helping Others Helps You It takes a little bit of time and effort to help your friend(s) find their dream job but the effort is well worth it. By helping your friend improve their resumé, practice interviewing, and learn about job postings you find, you will be helping yourself. Youâll learn what employers are looking for, gain a network of people who will help you, and feel better doing it. Question of the article Have I missed anything? How else can you help a friend find a job? What did you do that had the biggest impact on a friend's job search? Please leave your comments and suggestions below. The Bain of Obamas Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
The Bain of Obamaâs Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career If everything good about you was eclipsed by someoneâs loud voice, if everything you believed was in the shadow of someone else who communicated better â" you would be angry. But if anger were the cryponite of your brand â" the one thing that if you were, you would never get where you wanted to go? You would be President Obama. Who got âbainedâ on the first debate. The ability to shape shift is a particular gift of Republican candidate Willard Mitt Romney. He has even given up his first name. Not in favor of something better or more endearing or more familiar â" or even more reflective of whom his is or wants to be. Mitt is just somewhat better than Willard. And, what could be better than the caught on tape pronouncement that 48% of Americans are slackers â" than saying that 100% of the American people are great? That Medicare is perfect the way it is, but how about vouchers, too? That social programs are great and should be fully funded, but how about doing it at the state level? Like the education budget of people who live in Mississippi is handled at the worst of 50 states, but hey, thatâs Mississippiâs domain â" isnât it? And the only problem that we have is overfunding Big Birdâs habit of educating young children. How did the first debate debase President Obamaâs brand? Why did he not anticipate that candidate Romney would do what he has always done, which is shift shape when the opportunity presented itself? Once again, we learn the great lesson of branding. If you cannot express it, you donât possess it. The outrage, the truth telling, the saying it like it is â" was beyond President Obamaâs capacity â" because he was constrained by his opponent who has been trying to manufacture the Presidentâs brand. The straw man that candidate Romney is running against is angry. âForeign.â Someone whose birth certificate is apparently forged â" just ask Donald Trump. When you are afraid of how someone else has defined you â" that you cannot challenge them. At least not when 60 million people are watching. Yet, itâs when it is the most difficult, it is the most crucial. President Obama may be the smartest, most decent and successful president we have ever had the good fortune to call our own. But if he cannot argue as well as he can advocate, he will lose this election. Your brand is what you make it, unless someone debates who you are â" and you cede your reputation to them. Lies â" as candidate Romney said on air, during the debate â" were something his sons told him over and over. That was an opportunity, among several during the debate, for President Obama to make the case that they had learned to lie somewhere. But, to do that would be to step into the âangry manâ offense that Romney had been setting him up for months. Sometimes you simply have to choose to challenge the so-called facts and the individual who vociferously is making a case that is simply isnât true. But when you stake your brand on being likeable, can you stand for not being liked? Be careful about what your brand means. Never let someone else define you. Be careful of the lies you overlook and let go. You donât always have another day to undo the damage that someone has done to you. Thereâs a reason we call venture capitalists, vulture capitalists. Awesome Benefits Of Being A Freelancer
Awesome Benefits Of Being A Freelancer If you are about to hit the job market, youâre going to find that for a lot of careers, freelancing isnât a choice. Itâs really your only option. The reason for this is that many companies are not hiring employees on a contractual basis because they know itâs cheaper to hire a freelancer. It also limits the risk that they take on as an employer and the complications of cutting a contract. But for you, as a working professional, freelancing is not always a negative. This type of career does have some rather brilliant advantages. Youâre Not Tied Down Although the disadvantage is that an employer can let you go whenever they feel like, there is another side of the coin. You can leave the job whenever you want to look for better prospects elsewhere. Most employees freelance while continuing to search for a permanent job. As soon as you find one, you can quite quickly finish your current freelancing contract and settle into your new job. So, although an employer has no obligation to you, you have no obligation to your employer. It works both ways. Youâll Get A Lot Of Experience As a freelancer, you will probably find youâre switching between jobs a lot. You often wonât find yourself staying in one place for a long period of time. The benefit of this is that you will pick up a lot of experience in different work backgrounds. This is going to dramatically improve your CV and thus improve your chances of gaining a high paid job. You will soon find that your CV is a lot more attractive to potential employers. Once you start freelancing, youâll be getting plenty more interviews and callbacks when you apply for jobs. You Can Travel Perhaps one of the best advantages of being a freelancer is that you donât have to stay in the same place, or even the same country. You can go anywhere while continuing to work, particularly if you are working primarily online. That means that youâll be able to see a lot more of the world than you could if you were stuck in one permanent job and office. You will have the chance at a degree of freedom that most employees simply do not have. You Can Work As Much Or As Little As You Like One piece of advice for freelancers is to only take the jobs you want. That means you can choose how much work you do each month, or year. If you want a holiday and you have the money saved to pay for it, you can take it whenever you like. Youâll be able to control exactly how much pay you are making at the end of the year and because youâre self-employed, youâll pay less tax too. Youâll Find Plenty Of Opportunities The job market might be scarce but the freelancer demand is anything but. There is a constant flood of employers looking to fill positions because an employee has gone off sick or gone on holiday. By taking these jobs, you will gain experience and pay regularly.
